How to set a limit with a parent
A parent can take a limit as a rejection, which is why it is hard to say even when you are sure of it.
Tonecraft lets you rehearse it first. Describe what keeps happening, choose gentle, direct or firm, and walk through six turns. At each turn you see three ways they might answer.
A way to open
I want you to come over, and I need you to text before you do. If you turn up without asking, I won't be able to let you in.
Three ways they might answer. Each is plausible, not a prediction of what they will say.
Hears you out
All right. I didn't know it was a problem. I'll text first.
Pushes back
I'm your mother. I shouldn't need to make an appointment.
Brushes it off
You're making a big thing out of nothing.
Your first five rehearsals are free. No card needed.
